These machines are intended to treat Obstructive Sleep Apnea by use of Positive Airway Pressure. They pump air through your airway to keep it free from obstruction. There are two primary kinds: CPAP and Bi-Level. The CPAP pumps a constant pressure, while the Bi-Level lowers the pressure during exhalation in order to make it easier and more comfortable to exhale. Both of these can also have an automatic (auto) feature, allowing them to adjust pressure levels to individual settings as needed. An auto machine can eliminate the need for expensive and uncomfortable visits to a sleep lab since it adjusts the pressure according to indivual breathing patterns.
